Senator Akogun Lere Oyewumi, PhD, Deputy Minority Leader of the Senate and representative of Osun West Senatorial District, has officially flagged off the construction of a 1.8-kilometre road in Ikire.
Accompanied by his wife, Yeye Akogun Oyewumi, the senator performed the ceremony for the Adebisi Sawmill Express–Oduduwa–Anajere–Oke Olufi–Sekere Ayo–Sanngo Road. He described the project as more than mere infrastructure, calling it a practical demonstration of what effective representation should mean: listening to the people, responding to their needs and delivering tangible dividends of democracy.
Senator Oyewumi expressed deep gratitude to the people of Ikire for standing firm during the election despite intimidation, harassment and pressure. “The election is over; governance has begun,” he said.
He stated that the road would improve transportation, stimulate commercial activities, open up communities and enhance security across the axis.
Upon completion, the entire stretch is to be illuminated with solar-powered streetlights, while a new electricity transformer will be provided and installed for the Oduduwa community to address its persistent power challenges.
The senator appealed to residents, business owners and motorists to cooperate with the contractors and exercise patience during the construction period.
The lead contractor, Engr. Ayorinde Saheed Salewa, assured the community of strict adherence to engineering standards, quality and the stipulated completion timeline.
The event was attended by traditional rulers and community leaders, including His Royal Majesty Oba Tajudeen Akinola Olanrewaju Aketula I, the Akire of Ikireland; Oba Maruf Fabowale, the Sooko of Itaakun; Oba Ogungbe Kazeem, the Oniwata of Iwata; members of the Akire-in-Council; Chief Falana; the Chief Imam of Ikireland; the CAN Chairman; the Chairman of the Muslim Council; community leader Alhaji Ademola Azeez; and other stakeholders.
Senator Oyewumi thanked the Akire of Ikireland for his kind words, prayers and encouragement, and expressed appreciation to the people of Ikire for their continued trust and support.
He reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to ensuring that every community in Osun West Senatorial District feels the impact of effective representation.
“Brick by brick, project by project, community by community, we will continue to build a better Osun West. The campaign is over; now, it is time to work,” he said.
