The Pelumi Olajengbesi Youth and Student Network (POYSN) has welcomed the endorsement of its Principal Leader, Barrister Pelumi Olajengbesi, by Yoruba activist, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, ahead of the 2027 House of Representatives election.
Igboho endorsed Olajengbesi’s aspiration to represent the Oriade/Obokun Federal Constituency during a meeting with the lawyer in Ibadan on Sunday.
According to POYSN, the endorsement is significant not only because of its timing but also because of the history between the two men.
During the meeting, Igboho recalled Olajengbesi’s support during his detention in the Republic of Benin in 2021, when the lawyer was involved in the legal proceedings surrounding his case.
“When things were very tough and I was locked up in Benin Republic, you stayed with me and gave me your full support till I was released. You didn’t ask me for money,” Igboho was quoted as saying.
He also recalled Olajengbesi’s intervention around his return to Nigeria for his mother’s burial and other assistance provided during the period.
“Pelumi stood by me in a lot of ways,” Igboho added.
POYSN said the recollection highlighted a relationship that predated the 2027 political contest, describing the endorsement as a public acknowledgement of Olajengbesi’s support during a difficult period.
The network noted that Olajengbesi’s involvement in Igboho’s case occurred while the lawyer was acting in his professional capacity rather than seeking political support.
While declaring his support for Olajengbesi’s 2027 ambition, Igboho pledged to rally support for the campaign and urged the lawyer to remain committed to the people of Oriade/Obokun and fulfil the promises he makes to them if elected.
POYSN appreciated Igboho for the confidence expressed in its Principal Leader and for remembering the role Olajengbesi played during his period of detention in the Republic of Benin.
The network added that the endorsement would further contribute to conversations around youth participation, effective representation and a new generation of leadership in Oriade/Obokun.
Olajengbesi, who is contesting under the Accord Party, has continued to engage stakeholders across the constituency ahead of the 2027 election.
For POYSN, the meeting between the two men represented more than an endorsement, as it also brought renewed attention to a relationship that began during Igboho’s legal ordeal in the Republic of Benin and has now intersected with Olajengbesi’s 2027 political aspiration.
