The ruling Accord Party in Osun State has accused the factional National President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, and some members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) of allegedly plotting to violently take over motor parks across the state.
The state chairman of the party, Pastor Victor Akande, made the allegation in a statement personally signed by him, claiming that credible reports from various motor parks indicated that Akinsanya was allegedly behind the plot.
According to Akande, MC Oluomo was allegedly using his surrogate, Kazeem Oyewale, popularly known as Asiri Eniba, to carry out the plan.
The party chairman alleged that Akinsanya had issued a new certificate recognising Oyewale as a leader despite the tenure of the incumbent executive not having elapsed.
Akande said the development could encourage Asiri Eniba and his supporters to engage in violent activities across motor parks in the state, allegedly with the aim of frustrating the Osun State Government's proposed Park Management System.
The Accord Party chairman called on the Presidency and the Inspector-General of Police to intervene and rein in Akinsanya, warning that he should be held accountable for any potential breakdown of law and order arising from the alleged activities.
The party also expressed support for Governor Ademola Adeleke's decision to suspend NURTW operations across motor parks in the state and commence plans for the establishment of a state Park Management System.
According to Akande, the government's decision was necessary to prevent further factional clashes following the killing of Olalekan Oyeyemi.
“The threat of factional warfare is still very on ground, hence the strong support of all and sundry for the creation of a park management system which the state governor will announce in due course,” he said.
The party further condemned what it described as the “illegal and violent activities” of Asiri Eniba, alleging that they were being supported by MC Oluomo.
“We therefore strongly frown at the illegal and violent activities of Mr Asiri Eniba, supported by Mr MC Oluomo, as a remnant of pre-election violence in Osun State, which should stop without further delay,” the statement read.
Akande also commended the Osun State Commissioner of Police for his intervention in maintaining peace, urging him and other security agencies to enforce the governor's directive that all NURTW factions vacate the motor parks.
He further called on security agencies to secure motor parks across the state to prevent any faction from taking control and avert a renewed cycle of violence within the NURTW.
The allegations contained in the statement are those of the Accord Party chairman; the statement provided does not include responses from MC Oluomo, Asiri Eniba, or the APC.
