Former Deputy Governor of Osun State, Titi Laoye-Ponnle, has declined her nomination to serve on the newly reconstituted Governing Council of Osun State University (UNIOSUN).
The development was disclosed by the National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Senator Ajibola Basiru, during a courtesy visit to Governor Ademola Adeleke at the Osun State Government House in Osogbo on Sunday.
Basiru said Laoye-Ponnle was initially expected to accompany him on the visit and personally inform Adeleke of her decision but was unable to attend.
According to him, the former deputy governor turned down the appointment because she is currently serving as chairman of the governing council of a federal institution.
“She said I should tell you she is not concerned about capacity, but she is presently the Chairman of the Governing Council of one of our federal institutions,” Basiru quoted Laoye-Ponnle as saying.
Basiru added that Laoye-Ponnle appreciated Adeleke for considering her for the appointment and remained willing to contribute to the development of Osun State in other capacities.
The decision followed Adeleke’s dissolution of the former UNIOSUN Governing Council and the constitution of a new council as part of efforts to strengthen the administration and governance of the institution.
The reconstituted council is chaired by Professor Adewale Abiodun Oladipo, who retained his position as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman.
Other members of the new council include Alhaji Gbadegesin Lawal, Akinola Franklin Omoniyi, Chief Funminiyi Awotide, Orija Samuel Adebayo and Adewale Adetayo Bola.
Adeleke inaugurated the new council at the Government House on Monday, charging its members to build on the university’s achievements and provide the necessary support for its continued growth.
Laoye-Ponnle’s decision means she will not serve on the newly inaugurated UNIOSUN Governing Council despite being included among the initial nominees.
